The good: Reasonable price; solid mobile performance and battery life; reinforced frame; lots of component choices, including Intel Core Duo processors; onsite service comes standard.

The bad: No discrete graphics option; lacks a fingerprint sensor; no built-in WWAN capability.

The bottom line: While the Latitude D520 won’t wow you in any one respect, its satisfying combination of speed, battery life, features, and price will serve basic business users well.

Our benchmarks show the D520 offers a good mix of performance and battery life.

In Sysmark 2004 SE it achieved an admirable score of 191, while in Mobilemark 05 testing it managed a decent battery life of five hours 23 minutes in the Productivity test.

In DVD playback, the result of just over three and half hours means you can watch your favourite movie without worrying about having to re-charge half way through.
