The Dell Inc.’s upcoming Latitude XT Tablet PC features new multi-touch technology and will ship in the next few months, according to the company’s chief technology officer Kevin Kettler, who showcased the convertible notebook at the ongoing Oracle OpenWorld 2007 conference.
The Dell Latitude XT’s multi-touch input technology allows customers to use multiple fingers to draw lines or manage images simultaneously. The Dell’s first Tablet PC also supports single-touch features with a finger or stylist and is said to be the industry’s thinnest 12.1-inch convertible laptop. In addition, the Latitude XT is claimed to have a 25% brighter screen than its competitors.
According to the previously leaked specifications, the XT features the Core 2 Duo Ultra Low Voltage U7600 processor clocked at 1.2GHz, the ATI RS600ME/SB600 chipset with the Radeon Xpress 1250 integrated graphics, and support for up to 3GB of RAM. Its LED backlight display has a 1280×800 resolution and provides an optionally enhanced outdoor viewing capability. Regarding communications, the XT supports 802.11n draft wireless standard, and wireless broadband 3G (HSDPA, EV-DO Rev. A) connectivity.
The Dell Latitude XT was expected to be released on November 5th and to cost between $1,500 and $2,000.
