Dell has launched the Latitude XT2 XFR, a rugged edition of the XT2 12.1-inch Tablet PC.
The industry’s first rugged capacitive multi-touch tablet has protection against rain, dust, vibration, extreme temperatures, and accidental drops.
Dell says the Latitude XT2 XFR has been independently tested to meet military (MIL-STD-810G) and IP54 (Ingress Protection) standards for operation in extreme conditions, including drops of up to 3 feet. Protective features include rugged hinges, rugged I/O doors, and an optional rubber backlit keyboard.
The 12.1″ display is outdoor-readable and has a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. Along with touch and multi-touch, the screen supports digital pen input.
Regarding core components, the XT2 XFR includes the Intel Core Duo ULV SU9600 1.6GHz processor with vPro technology, up to 5GB of DDR3 memory, up to 128GB solid state drive or up to 160GB hard drive storage, the Intel GMA 4500MHD integrated GPU, wireless LAN, a Gigabit Ethernet port, optional mobile broadband connectivity, Bluetooth, a single speaker, a microphone, optional hot swappable 2MP camera or dedicated GPS, three USB ports, ExpressCard and SD card slots, a Smart Card reader, a Firewire port, a VGA output, a fingerprint reader, and the TPM 1.2.
The Tablet PC starts at 5.4lbs and comes with a 4-, 6-, or 9-cell battery.
It runs Windows Vista Business and has a base price of $3,600 at Dell.com.
