Dell Vostro 1500The Dell Vostro 1500 laptop has been announced this week, along with other notebooks in the company’s new business-class lineup.

The 15.4-inch Vostro 1500 is built on the latest mobile computer platform codenamed “Santa Rosa” by Intel. The system features the Core 2 Duo or Celeron processor, and a choice of GM965 chipset with integrated GMA X3100 graphics or PM965 paired with dedicated NVIDIA GeForce video card. There are the GeForce 8400M GS 128MB and the GeForce 8600M GT 256MB options. The display, managed by these graphics solutions, features 1280×800, 1440×900 or 1680×1050 resolution, depending on your choice.

The 1500 is offered with up to 4GB of system memory, but the usage of more than 3GB requires a 64-bit operating system, which is not offered on the notebook’s product web page. The 1500 comes with up to 160GB hard drive at 5400rpm rotational speed.

Regarding networking and communications, Dell Vostro 1500 features wireless LAN supporting 802.11n draft standard optionally, an Ethernet LAN, a 56k modem, and an optional Bluetooth, as well as a choice of AT&T, Sprint and Verizon mobile broadband modules. In addition, you can have a built-in 2 megapixel web camera, mounted on the top of the display panel.

The laptop has an ExpressCard slot, four USB ports, a 8-in-1 media card reader, an infra-red sensor, and a Firewire. For external monitors and TVs, there are VGA and S-Video outputs.

This Vostro model features the same hardware specifications and a chassis as Dell Inspiron 1520 notebook, aimed at consumers. The difference is that the Vostro 1500 is black, while the Inspiron 1520 comes in eight different colors.

Dell Vostro 1500 weighs up to 6.61 pounds, depending on configuration, and is available via PC maker’s website for a starting price of $549 after $50 instant off.
