Own a Vostro 1700 4 more than 1 year,(maybe 2), really good product, but Dell Service Sucks. Not renewed warranty extension Policy. Installed just 3 GB of RAM because operating system does not recognize more RAM.
the only incoviniet is that sometimes while typing on keyboard, it changes lines?1, my wife wants to buy an external keyboard, has anyone happened it?
Bios has been upgraded A07, but seems not to have option to remapp RAM to 4 GB.
Installed second Hard drive 5400 rpm 250 GB as primary disk, original hard disc 160 GB not formated yet, but sends a message while trying to format it. has anyone provide some help for "tunning" Vostro Hard disk?, accelerate RAM performance?, install 4 GB RAM makes any sense?, thanks in advance for your help, alex

Hello Wybe, I want to install 64bit Vista on my Vostro 1700. Did you install 64bit drivers on your Vostro 1700 and if so, where did you get the drivers? Thanks.

Just read the article and wanted to point out that you do not need to use a 64 bit operating system with 4GB of Ram installed. However, the memory would have to be remapped in the bios before Windows would be able to use all 4GB of Ram. I am almost positive that the Dell bios does not offer the option of remapping the memory. 4 GB would probably show up as around 3.25GB of Ram in either a 32 bit or 64 bit configuration.
