Elektrobit (EB) has introduced this week its Mobile Internet Multimedia Device (MIMD), based on upcoming Intel 2008 Mobile Internet Device (MID) platform, codenamed “Menlow”.
“This class of devices is designed to deliver full Internet-based capabilities in an ultra mobile form factor, providing rich end user experience for browsing and web 2.0 services, multimedia consumption and for navigation,” EB says.
The EB MIMD features 4.8-inch touchscreen display and a full QWERTY keyboard, and supports multiple wireless connections, such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and HSPA or WiMAX. The MIMD runs the Linux operating system.
EB will not offer its own brand of MIMD device, but plans to offer the EB MIMD Reference Product under license to OEM’s, ODM’s and other customers. In addition, EB will offer complete MIMD product design services to OEM’s, ODM’s and other customers to commercialize MIMD products under their own brands or customer brands, according to press release.
