Do not want to pay the “Microsoft Tax” when I buy a laptop. Not to mention that having to pay it for “Vista” is even worse than being forced to take “XP.”

I will be quite happy loading Ubuntu on it and throwing 2GB of RAM into it for $50 (already on order)

May eventually get a larger hard drive and/or batter for it. (But it should handle the basics just fine for me…)

By the way the Dell comes out to $449 by my calculations… I suspect the Dells still include a MS Tax since they never seem to have a comparable configurations between their Ubuntu and Windows based models. Makes it real hard to do a head to head comparison of the “price.”

I like to hear that the prices are dropping on computers. I have heard of the GPC that is supposed to be selling at Wal-mart for a whopping two hundred.
Its already selling on new egg for that price. I don’t believe it comes with a monitor though. Fine by me. I can get a crt at the local thrift for less than twenty.

I can’t understand why anyone would by this machine if you can buy Dell Vostro 1000 / AMD Athlon 64 X2 / 15 inch / 1Gb / 80 Gb / DVD-RW / ATI Radeon Xpress 115 for $419
