Fujitsu LifeBook U810, T2010, P1620, S6510 SLED Linux Certified

Fujitsu Lifebook with SLEDFujitsu has received Novell YES Certification for SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop (SLED) Linux distribution on four LifeBook mobile PCs.

The certified notebook models include the Fujitsu LifeBook U810 ultra-mobile PC, LifeBook T2010, LifeBook P1620 ultra-portable convertible notebooks, and the LifeBook S6510 thin and light laptop.

Novell’s YES certification means the notebooks have been “stringently tested” for compatibility with SLED operating system. However, Fujitsu sells the four PCs only with Microsoft Windows systems preinstalled.

SUSE is one of the most popular Linux distribution currently, and is already offered in Lenovo’s ThinkPad T61 and R61 laptops, while Dell sells Ubuntu Linux on the Inspiron 1525N, 1420N, and XPS M1330 notebooks.

Good news to me….. though I wish Fujitsu supported Ubuntu as well. Hopefully, we’ll see more manufacturers offering fully compatible Ubuntu and SUSE models across their lineup in the near future.

Linux netbooks are making a dent in the MS monopoly. I wonder how long it will take before some computer manufacturer starts making a real high-powered Linux machine with graphics cards, etc. Its amazing how long it has taken them to even begin to catch on to the market preferences.
