Fujitsu MHZ2 BTFujitsu today announced the release of its new series of MHZ2 BT 2.5″ hard disk drives with data storage capacity of up to 500GB.

The Fujitsu MHZ2 BT HDDs use the Serial ATA 3GB/s interface and spin at 4,200rpm. These drives have 8MB of buffer memory.

The MHZ2 BT hard drives have a height of 12.5mm, which is not a standard dimension for 2.5-inch laptop hard drives.

Sales of the new series will begin at the end of May 2008, according to the Fujitsu’s press release.

The first 500GB units that fit in the notebook industry’s standard 9.5mm height dimension are expected to hit the market next month and are produced by Samsung.

Hitachi also recently introduced the 500GB 2.5″ HDDs with a 12.5mm height.
