Gateway unveiled the NX270S notebook with Windows Vista Home Basic operating system.
The 14.1-inch widescreen Gateway NX270S provides the 1280 x 800 display resolution, and comes with Intel Celeron 430 processor and 512MB of main memory achieved with two 256MB modules. The 512MB of RAM is the minimal requirement for running Vista Home Basic. If you want to upgrade to Vista Premium, Microsoft and laptop vendors advise you to use at least 1GB of RAM.
Even with 1GB of main memory or more, you won’t be able to use the Windows Aero 3D desktop feature incorporated in Premium editions of Microsoft’s new operating system, since Gateway NX270S uses integrated ATI Radeon X200 Express Graphics. The X200 isn’t on the list of ATI’s video cards supporting Aero.
The NX270S has a 60GB hard drive spinning at 4200rpm and a CD-RW/DVD combo drive.
Gateway’s new laptop provides Ethernet LAN, wireless 802.11a/b/g and a modem’s 56k connection.
It has ExpressCard slot, three USB ports and VGA out, as same as 4-in-1 media card reader.
Although Gateway NX270S provides Vista’s basic features only , it could be the good shopping opportunity since it is priced at $599.99 after $100 instant discount.
