Hewlett-Packard has announced that it will offer Flash memory-based 64GB solid state drives in its HP Compaq 2710p Tablet PCs, the HP Compaq 2510p ultraportable laptops, as well as in the HP Compaq 6910p and the HP Compaq 8000 series notebooks.
According to HP, the solid state drive’s shock resistance helps improve the notebook’s reliability, while its decreased power consumption, when compared to traditional hard drives, improves battery life. SSDs also offer improved performance and up to 25 percent weight savings, HP says.
Pricing and the availability date for the SSD option in the HP’s business laptops are currently unknown.
For example, inclusion of a 32GB solid state drive instead of a standard 160GB hard drive in the Dell XPS M1330 notebook increases the overall system’s price for $450.
