HP added Intel Core 2 Duo Mobile (Merom) processors to its HP Compaq business notebook configurations, which have the same price tags as corresponding older Intel Core Duo (Yonah)-powered laptops.
In “Extreme Power” category all laptops feature Meroms. They are HP 15.4-inch screen Compaq nc8430 and nw8440, as same as 17-inch screen nx9420 notebooks and the HP Compaq nw9440 Mobile Workstation. The “Balanced Mobility” laptops now include the Core 2 Duo 14.1-inch HP Compaq nc6400, the 15-inch nc6320 and the 15.4-inch nx7400. In “Ultra Light” category, HP Compaq 12.1-inch screen Merom-powered nc4400 is available for purchase .
Regarding prices, nc8430 (RN030AW) preconfigured model with Intel Core 2 Duo T7200 CPU costs $1949, as same as identical nc8430 (EY685AW) notebook which features the older Intel Core Duo T2500. Both CPUs run on 2GHz, but T7200 has 4MB of L2 cache, compared to T2500 with 2MB of L2 cache. Also, other Merom-powered HP Compaq business notebooks have the same price tag as corresponding Yonah configurations.
