TrustedReviews - HP Compaq nc2400 Ultra-Portable Notebook
The nc2400 is definitely the best business focussed ultra-portable notebook that I’ve seen. Even for an individual buyer, this thin and light laptop has a great deal to offer. The specification is good, the warranty is impressive and the ergonomics are first rate. It seems churlish to complain about three hours of battery life on a notebook this small, but Sony has raised the bar so high in this area that every other manufacturer is playing catch up.

With a magnesium frame, magnesium alloy casing, and a Mobile Data Protection 3D accelerometer to help protect the notebook’s hardware from impact, the nc2400 is a sturdy machine. The combination of HP’s ProtectTools, embedded TPM chip, and standard fingerprint scanner, and this is one secure ultraportable.

When it’s time to hit the road, the HP Compaq nc2400 won’t disappoint. The ultraportable system’s long battery life and built-in optical drive are very pleasing. But if having an internal DVD drive isn’t important to you, the sleeker Gateway E-100M and the faster Lenovo ThinkPad X60s are still my picks.

The good: Very low starting price; includes key security features; has a large display for such a lightweight model; three-year warranty.

The bad: A bit heavier than comparable models; lacks a touch pad and a scroll button; fewer ports and connections than competitive models.

The bottom line: Though it lacks the latest components, the low-price HP Compaq nc2400 strikes an appealing balance between features and portability for basic mobile users.

Despite its performance shortcomings, the nc2400 does have attributes that make it appealing, including its light weight, excellent battery life, and a great keyboard–all for a reasonable price. Just don’t expect the notebook to power through lots of demanding apps.

The HP Compaq nc2400 is not the best ultraportable on the market but it is a very well balanced notebook regarding the performance, price, design and it accomplishes very well the idea of mobility and portability. The basic tasks like e-mail, text processing, PowerPoint presentations, Excel sheets are carried out by a flawless manner.
