Hewlett-Packard has announced the ruggedized HP EliteBook 2530p 12.1-inch ultraportable notebook for business users.
HP’s “smallest and lightest business notebook” weighs 3.19-pounds and meets the
military standard MIL-STD 810F for tests including dust and high temperature. It features the Intel Centrino 2 mobile platform with the new Core 2 Duo Ultra Low Voltage (ULV) or Low Voltage (LV) processors, support for up to 8GB of DDR2 RAM, and the GMA X4500 HD integrated graphics. The EliteBook 2530p offers the choice of a small 1.8-inch hard drive / solid state drive with a built-in optical drive or a standard 2.5-inch laptop HDD. The display of the notebook has a resolution of 1280×800 pixels and LED backlight.
Other features include optional 2-megapixel web camera and fingerprint reader, dual pointing devices (touchpad and pointstick), 802.11n wireless networking, optional mobile brodaband connectivity, Bluetooth, Gigabit Ethernet LAN, a 56k modem, ExpressCard and Secure Digital slots, and VGA and Firewire ports. The 2530p has two USB ports, when configured with a 1.8-inch HDD or SSD, while the systems with a 2.5-inch hard drive have three USBs.
The ultraportable EliteBook also incorporates the Trusted Platform Module 1.2 and hard drive encryption for enhanced security, as well as Intel vPro technology for advanced manageability.
The HP 2530p runs Windows Vista OS.
It is expected to be available by early September, with estimated starting U.S. street pricing of $1,499.
