HP Pavilion dv6500z, dv9500zHewlett-Packard updated today its HP Pavilion notebook lineup with the dv6500z and dv9500z models, both powered by AMD’s processors and NVIDIA’s nForce 630M chipset.

The 15.4-inch HP Pavilion dv6500z and the 17-inch dv9500z feature AMD Turion 64 X2 dual core processor options. The dv6500z is offered with Turion 64 X2 CPUs clocked at up to 2.2GHz, while the dv9500z additionally provides a choice of the latest Turion 64 X2 TL-66 processor at 2.3GHz. By default, these laptops ship with the NVIDIA GeForce Go 7150M graphics integrated into the nForce 630M chipset, while for more demanding users there is the NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS dedicated video option.

The main difference between the two models is in their displays. The dv6500z has a 15.4″ WXGA panel with 1280-by-800 pixels resolution, while the purchasers of the dv9500z can choose between the 17″ WXGA+ (1440×900) or WSXGA+ (1680×1050) screen. For the “improved color gamut by 72%” in the dv9500z, customers can select the Ultra BrightView 1440×900 dual lamp display.

Both notebooks support up to 4GB of system memory. The largest hard drive offered in the HP Pavilion dv6500z is a 250GB Serial ATA unit spinning at 5400rpm. On the other side, the HP Pavilion dv9500z provides a maximum of 500GB storage capacity using two 250GB 5400rpm SATA HDDs. The new AMD-powered Pavilions ship with a DVD burner, but there is also a choice of HD DVD ROM drive, if the dedicated 8400M graphics is selected.

For stereo sound, these HP laptop systems use the integrated Altec Lansing speakers.

Regarding communications, there are Wi-Fi options, including those for draft 802.11n wireless networks, an optional Bluetooth, an Ethernet LAN and a 56K modem. In addition, HP optionally offers the Wireless V740 ExpressCard for Verizon’s wireless broadband network.

Other options include a webcam, an ExpressCard digital/analog TV tuner, and a fingerprint reader.

Along with an ExpressCard slot, the dv6500z and dv9500z have a 5-in-1 digital media card reader, an integrated Infra-Red receiver, a FireWire port, as well as VGA and S-Video outputs. The smaller model comes with three USB ports, while the 17-incher features four USB ports without fingerprint reader, or three USB ports if the fingerprint reader is included in a configuration.

With standard batteries, the HP Pavilion dv6500z and the dv9500z, which has a numeric pad alongside the keyboard, weigh around 6.14lbs and 7.7lbs respectively. However, if you choose the dual lamp 1440×900 display, your dv9500z will weigh around 8.4lbs.

Both notebooks have the “Radiance” HP Imprint Finish with “graphic lines radiating across the surface”.

The HP Pavilion dv6500z ($749.99) and the HP Pavilion dv9500z ($999.99) are available via Hewlett-Packard’s website, with an estimated shipping date of September 13th. These laptops come with Windows Vista preinstalled.

The PC maker has also added to its product line the new AMD-based Compaq Presario v6500z 15.4-inch laptop, which is similar to the Pavilion dv6500z. The Presario v6500z is priced at only $499 after rebate.
