Hewlett-Packard has updated its notebook lineup with the HP Pavilion dv6700z and dv9700z series, both powered by AMD’s dual core processors.
The 15.4-inch HP Pavilion dv6700z and the 17-inch dv9700z, which are the successors of the dv6500z and dv9500z series, feature an AMD Turion 64 X2 or Athlon 64 X2 processor, depending on customers choice. These notebooks ship with the NVIDIA GeForce Go 7150M graphics integrated into the nForce 630M chipset, or with the NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS 256MB dedicated video card.
The dv6700z has a 15.4″ display with 1280-by-800 pixels resolution, while purchasers of the dv9700z can choose between a 17″ 1440×900 and 1680×1050 screen. For an “improved color gamut” in the dv9700z series, customers can select the Ultra BrightView 1440×900 dual lamp display.
Both notebooks support up to 4GB of system memory. The HP Pavilion dv6700z comes with up to 250GB hard drive at 5400rpm. On the other side, the dv9700z provides a maximum of 500GB storage capacity using two 250GB 5,400rpm HDDs. The new AMD-based Pavilion laptops ship with a DVD burner, but there is also a choice of a HD DVD ROM drive, if the dedicated 8400M GS graphics is selected.
The HP’s dv6700z and dv9700z use the integrated Altec Lansing stereo speakers.
Regarding communications, there are Wi-Fi options, including those supporting 802.11n wireless, an optional Bluetooth, Ethernet LAN, and a 56K modem. In addition, HP offers broadband wireless connection, if the Verizon Wireless V740 ExpressCard is selected.
Other options include a built-in web camera, an ExpressCard TV tuner, and a fingerprint reader.
Along with an ExpressCard slot, the dv6700z and dv9700z have a 5-in-1 digital media card reader, an integrated Infra-Red receiver, and a FireWire port. For video output, there are VGA and S-Video ports, and an HDMI output, when the GeForce 8400M GS is selected. The 6700z features three USB ports, while the 9700z has four USB ports, or three USB ports if the fingerprint reader is optioned.
With standard batteries, the HP Pavilion dv6700z and the dv9700z weigh around 6.06lbs and 7.7lbs respectively. With the dual lamp 1440×900 display, the dv9700z, which has a keyboard with a numeric pad, weighs around 8.4lbs.
Both notebooks have the “Radiance” HP Imprint Finish and Windows Vista preinstalled.
The HP Pavilion dv6700z and the HP Pavilion dv9700z start at $630.99 and $799.99 respectively, and are available through the Hewlett-Packard’s website.
