This gets far to hot. Laptop has been back to hp 3 times for same problem. I will never buy hp again. Am trying to make something to sit laptop on to try to keep it cool

DO not buy this laptop ! We have one and in bout a 3 year use.It has crash from issue with motherboard and who know what else.

With the 2 repair done and unsure what type of parts use.This hp laptop was a waste of money .

If you do not need laptop.Go with a good desktop,hell buy parts at a time.I bet you will get a better use and save time and money over years.

I have had a dv9000 for about 3 years. The left hinge broke but HP fixed it under warranty with no problem. About 3 months ago the computer crashed and I lost everything. This was all a result of the NVidia card and overheating. We finally got it back up and running by bypassing the NVidia card. The graphics are now crummy but at least the laptop is functional.

Does anyone know if the NVidia card can be removed and replaced by a better video card?

I have a fixed DV9000T. I’ve have seen and heard all this so much the past few years. I gave up on HP long ago and fixed My HP DV9000 computer myself. The most important thing I fixed, besides reflowing my NVIDIA BGA assembly, was progamming my fan to run faster. I patched the BIOS ACPI DSTS that controls the speed of the fan and now the fan runs faster so the GPU stays between 49C and 58C. Read “How I Fixed My HP DV9000 Computer” (http://icodehead.blogspot.com/2010/07/how-i-fixed-my-hp-dv9000-computer_02.html#Section3.4.2) so you can patch your computer to take control of your fan.

i have had my dv 9000 for 2 years just put windows 7 on it (dont like nvida chipset) and i have nothin but problems with it sine i had it so far wireless card gone twice runs very hot even with fans under belkin usb keyboard went hdmi dont think it has ever worked but it just one of them motherboard gone for the second time sound card went i think i paid alot for a paper weight dont buy one also its not simple to take apart 3 time now but the amd dual core can be clocked too 4.32 ghz and works fine in another laptop

I am wondering if anyone else has had issues with their screen casing breaking? The right side of both mine and my husbads HP dv9000 have now broken. Niether of these laptops have ever been dropped, used incorrectly, etc etc etc. We have owned these laptops for almost 2 1/2 years now. Mine has been broken for just over a year and my husband’s broke last night. We are unable to close the screen on either laptop. The side of the screen is split completely, worse at the base. Any help or even just someone else saying it has happened to them would be great. So far everything else has been fine with the laptops, aside from the occasional overheating.

I have had this laptop since they first came out haven’t had a single problem with it,mine I boosted ram to 4 gigs,standard in all 5 of my laptops and doesn’t heat up on me.never sent it in for anything…….just the lucky one I guess

I have had this model for 2 years. For the most part it takes care of my BASIC needs, but leaves no room for more.
My main complaints with it are of course the overheating, no matter how i ventilate it, I have actually burned myself from it. The other issue I have had with it is that it has crashed on me due to a defective hard drive, 3 days outside of warranty of course.

Hello, just wanted to leave my two cents about this laptop.

Bought this laptop new back in 2007 before I started college. It wasn’t the best computer at the time, but it did what I wanted it to do. I have a desktop for gaming so the GPU didn’t really concern me at all.

Issues so far:

Broken left hinge
Unexpected wireless card failure
Numeric keypad confusion
Heating issues

Of those issues, I have replaced the left and right hinges myself at a cost of about $10. The wireless card, I cannot explain, it quit working for about 3 months then it started working again; so I am not complaining. The numeric keypad issue is probably the most annoying thing as the dv9000 series has a dedicated numeric keypad; however, when the numlock deactivated then reactivated, not only does the dedicated pad function, but the ‘hidden’ keypad on the main keyboard functions as well. This can be overcome by enabling the numlock with the on screen keyboard (run ‘osk.exe’ from the run menu and enable numlock on your keyboard on the screen). Heat issues have been around since day one so I have gotten used to them.

I am in no way shape or form a representative of HP or any of their affiliates. I am a relatively satisfied customer of HP and just wanted to express my views with this computer. It is nearly 3 years since I got this computer and it is running fine by my standards. I personally have had 2 HP desktops, 2 HP laptops, and 2 HP printers and none of them have experienced anything that I could not fix or repair on my own.

If, however, anyone finds a good solution to the heating issue other than using a cooling pad, please send me an email to quiksilver88 (at) gmail (dot) com. Also, I will extend my expertise in this computer’s physical components to anyone who desires it, feel free to contact me via email.

I have had the DV9700t CTO for over 2 years and the only problem that I have had with it is that I have had to replace one of my Hard Drives. It stoped working but thats the only problem I have had. My warrenty has passed so I am hoping nothing goes wrong. I also upgraded the RAM from 2GB to 4GB.

I have one of these Machines and all was fine till : 2 months before the warrenty run out,.

then first the wireless card broke. Took ho 2 weeks to repace and retune machine from thier service center.

2 days before the warrenty run out the Video card went poof!

Another 3 weeks later and sevral calls to the HP service center wondering where the hell my machine is it turns up badly scratched.. poorly repaired adn the worng version of OS installed!

hmm several calls later and a few law court threats its on it way back to the service center…

1 month later! its back.. looking some what nicer.. plastics replaced…but wtf .. still a bad video card!

Do not buy from HP. these machines are total crap! The hp service centers do not care about thier service at all, they Lie. cheat and ripe you off.
as for the machine warrenties… they are a PIECE of shit! half the time they cant find your model , S/n. P/n of warrenty info.

Just received the new laptop…

Doesn’t overheat, and so far only a few minor problems. These include…

1. Constant buzzing noise near the fan (sometimes)
2. Graphics Card – is really bad, so need a new one
3. Scrollbar on touchpad isn’t working
4. No options anywhere to reduce the brightness
5. Hinges can easily break

Apart from that, the laptop is perfect.

Hello,

I bought the HP Pavilion Entertaiment DV9000 laptop today on eBay. The seller said it works perfectly so I shall post feedback here once I have received it and had a play with it.

I purchased it before coming on this site and reading the comments. I am hoping mine does not overheat, although I purchased a 3 in 1 cooling fan (external) on eBay at the same time, so this should help. It was only £4.99 and it looks like it’ll do the job!.

These laptops are complete crap. I had mine for two years and in that two year period I went through:
-5 power supplies (kept breaking at the insertion point)
-1 hinge replacement
-1 hard drive fail
-Video card broke and now it only operates in safe mode (with red lines and distortion behind it)

My laptop was under warranty for two years, but it expired 6 months before it was supposed to. When I sent my laptop in for the hard drive/hinge repair, HP sent me back a TRIAL version of Vista- not the one that was initially installed on my machine. They then proceeded to charge me 15$ for the correct install discs.

HP has TERRIBLE customer service. Never buy anything from them.

It is WRONG that we let them steal our money like this. This many people with the exact same problems- if we all contacted the Better Business Bureau, then we might have something, but with everyone just saying “Oh well, won’t buy that again” the problem just continues. I want my money back, and I’m appalled that more of you don’t as well.
This is pure thievery.

I had a dv9000 for about 2,5 years and always had overheating issues but i only used it for net for about 3-4 hours a day, so it wasn’t long enough hot to failure.One day i was downloading and left it about 9 hours open (never did that before)and left home.i’m coming back and i see a half-dead laptop with a dark-grey screen and nothing to respond to.I sent it to hp and they told me that graphics card died so a new motherboard was needed.(400euro).
from the beggining laptop shows that was trying too hard for nothing, and i was sure that it will not last long.so did it.i’m not saying hp didn’t make good products, neither that other company’s laptops doesn’t brake down.I’m saying that the biggest laptop manufacturer should recall a laptop series that was clearly born with overheating virus or at least give a warranty extension.now i bought a vaio twice as pricy and i am more than happy,with it and runs so quiet and cool.i guess what you give is what you get.HP? never ever again…

I am not sure exactly when the overheating started but my service requests have been many.
I have sent my laptop in for service twice into HP and both times the only thing they did was replace my battery and reboot it then refused to help me untill I purchase a service warrenty of $100 that only will trouble shoot any problems. With all these complaints a trouble shooting does not seem likely to be able to resolve this because the have been able to help anyone else on the overheating issues. Am I right?
Do you know of a good and experienced consumer lawer who will accept a class action lawsuit on an contingence suit.

I am now looking for an attorney for a class action suit. I am as are the many others experiencing overheating on my HP Pailivion Entertainment Laptop after 6 months or less because I have not used my new laptop on as often as the many of uses above.

well ive noticed tht this laptop is nice as well but the video card is the problem, i wonder how could be an entertainment pc with 128 mb video card it should be real and better otherwise theres nothing else except the video card.
