HP Pavilion tx1000Hewlett-Packard’s the latest HP Pavilion tx1000 Tablet PC, with AMD Turion 64 X2 dual-core processor, 12.1-inch WXGA touch-screen display and Windows Vista OS, was recently reviewed by Laptop Magazine, CNet and PC Magazine. The HP tx1000 is said to have innovative design and a lot of features, as same as affordable price. But, it also has “mediocre tablet implementation”, according to the reviews.

LAPTOP Magazine - HP Pavilion tx1000
Tablet deficiencies aside, the HP tx1000 is a remarkably usable and flexible Vista notebook that demonstrates how portable the new OS can be when paired with the right components and features. There is enough horsepower here for media creation and consumption, as well as for running Vista in the 3D mode it craves. Remarkably enough, HP has succeeded in fitting it all into a travel-friendly package.

The good: Innovative design; unique touchpad; touch screen doesn’t require stylus; not expensive.

The bad: Slightly thicker than it should be; glossy screen can be hard to read.

The bottom line: HP’s first Vista-based laptop, the Pavilion tx1000us, is an unusual but largely successful hybrid, combining a tablet design with an entertainment-focused laptop.

I’m actually very optimistic about the HP Pavilion tx1000’s future. Granted, HP needs to re-establish an alliance with Wacom to improve handwriting recognition. The tablet capabilities fell short of my expectations, and the design could use several enhancements. But the potential is limitless when you consider the plentiful features meshed into a solid Pavilion laptop. It’s like any other early-adopter unit - there will be a round two.

I took a close look at the tx1000 and agree that the tablet implementation is not up to par with more expensive tablets. The digitizer is not active and it is difficult to ink on the screen. But keep in mind, this tablet has been optimized for price (starts at $1,099).

the tablet functions aren’t the best but then this is a cheap notebook aimed for entertainment so the consumers most likely wont use the tablet features that much anyway. I use this laptop and i love it. i do use the tablet function now and then and its a useful feature to have but i mainly use it as a ordinary laptop.

I think Tx1000 is great. It packs in everything a student /home use laptop needs…entertainment, work requirements and works very well with Vista. I’m sure the next couple of versions will be real winners for HP.

I’m “proud” owner of HP Pavilion TX1250ea… I never trusted HP… they just don’t last longer than warranty, but anyway… They quite cheep, good characteristic, but thats it. After 3-4 month I just could not stand anymore this slooow…. Vista, even on optimizations for performace….. Downgrade to MS XP is very paintfull. Linux hardly supportable. This Tablet PC is at it’s full potential only at MS Windows XP 64-bit. a bit pain in the ass finding drivers, but when You done it - ir runs the way it should… not even compare with Vista (atleast 300 times faster). Though… no support from HP. They just don’t get it.. You can find drivers on similar models and most of them fit, but they just laizy to put them in TX1000 drivers downlad page…

Conclusion: want some headache - go ahead. As typewrite machyne - just perfect. Even powerfull with XP. For students, simple users - very good. For advenced - Not recomended. You will not get as powerfull machine as you expect, not until downgrade.
