Intel Corporation today introduced Intel Core 2 Extreme X7800 dual-core processor for laptops, claimed to be the world’s highest-performing mobile CPU.
The first Core 2 Extreme mobile processor, aimed at gaming and other high demanding operations, features two cores running at 2.6GHz and has notebook-specific power-saving features. The X7800 has 800MHz front side bus and 4MB of L2 cache, and ships to OEMs for $851.
According to Intel, the Core 2 Extreme X7800 offers “up to 28 percent more performance than its previous-generation mobile processor”. In addition, the X7800 is overclockable reportedly.
Notebook systems based on Core 2 Duo X7800 will appear on the market within the next two weeks, Intel’s press release says.
It was previously reported that Intel plans to release dual core Extreme X7900 mobile CPU, clocked at 2.8GHz, in September. The chip maker also said today that it expects to announce laptop-use quad core processors next year.
