Intel will launch in January 2008 five 45-nanometer dual core laptop processors, designed for use in the chip maker’s “Santa Rosa Refresh” laptop platform, DigiTimes reports.
These 45nm CPUs, codenamed “Penryn“, will have the model names: X9000 for 2.8GHz CPU, T9500 for 2.6GHz, T9300 for 2.5GHz, T8300 for 2.4GHz, and T8100 for 2.1GHz and be priced at US$851, US$530, US$316, US$241 and US$209 in 1000-unit tray quantities, respectively.
In addition, DigiTimes reports that, in the first half of 2008, the company will release other 45nm dual core CPUs for laptops based on Intel’s next-generation “Montevina” platform. The 45nm quad-core Core 2 Extreme notebook CPU, codenamed “Penryn QC”, will be released in the third quarter next year. The most of “Montevina” laptops will not support the quad-core CPU reportedly.
The “Santa Rosa Refresh” launch is also scheduled for January next year. Along with the support for “Penryn” processors, it will bring improved graphics capabilities, according to Intel.
Current Intel’s notebook processors are produced using 65nm technology. The 45nm technology is claimed to provide higher CPU performance and better energy-efficiency than the 65nm production process.
