Lenovo IdeaPad P400 Touch - 59360580

One of the new touchscreen laptop models is the Lenovo IdeaPad P400 Touch – 59360580, featuring a 14″ multi-touch 1366×768-pixel screen and excellent specifications. First of all, the included Intel Core i7-3632QM processor with four cores is one of the fastest on the laptop market and the P400 Touch – 59360580 also has 8GB of RAM, which is more than enough, as well as a large 1TB hard disk. That’s a maximum of hard drive space on today’s market, if you don’t count some bulky laptops with dual HDDs.

As you can see, a step up from the dual-core i5 to quad-core i7 brings a big performance boost, so the CPU in the P400 Touch – 59360580 is a great investment for those who do a lot of heavy computing, like video editing or photo editing in particular. It absolutely plasters the i5 and lower-end chips in the PassMark CU test.

Design-wise, the laptop sports a streamlined look with brushed aluminum silver finish on the base and graphite gray soft-touch paint on the lid. It has a thin appearance, with profile measuring 1.25″, but it isn’t an ultrabook. The keyboard has black chiclet-style keys with backlight, so typing in darkened environments won’t be troublesome. As opposed to the 15.6″ P500, the P400 hasn’t a dedicated numeric pad besides the main keyboard.

Lenovo has also included a DVD burner, great if you still use this old-fashioned media, Intel Wireless Display technology if you want to display content on an external HDMI-equipped screen without using wires, Dolby Home Theater for richer audio, a 720p web cam for quality video chats, and Bluetooth in the P400 Touch – 59360580, making it one of the best equipped 14″ laptops on the market.

Potential downsides of this system are a lack of dedicated graphics if you plan to do some gaming on it, as well as the included 4-cell battery instead of usual 6-cell units and we weren’t able to find info on battery life.

But, with a price of $800, the P400 is one of the laptops with the best value on the market, if you consider its performance and all of the included features.

Update: This model is no longer available, but there’s a cheaper new one – the Lenovo P400 Touch – 59371991.

  1. Bought this in 2014. I had done a lot of research and needed something more bulked up for school purposes. I shouldn’t say that it’s been terrible but I am not impressed with the performance like I thought it should have performed. Ive had several software issues with it. The cd drive stoped working about a year ago. It’s currently not working due to “checking media”. Will not even turn on. Hoping I did not loose everything on my hardrive.

    • Also did not notice any difference with the i7 processer compared to my old i5 processor in my old compaq.

  2. Wow – that’s strange that you had so many problems. I bought mine in 2009 and loved it from day 1. Upgraded to 16gb ram and it’s been my .net and OSS dev machine since then. No problems until now, when I tried to upgrade from win8.1 to win10. Crapped out, so now it’s wiped clean and a brand new Linux Mint machine. And it performs better! It will serve as the development server and host MS SQL Server and .net VM’s. I’ll do OSS dev natively on the box. I love it still to this day, and thrilled I do t need to go get a new machine!

  3. I purchased one of these and I wish never did. I have an hp two years old with an i5 processor and it performs 300 times better with windows 8 this one. the wireless wifi keeps cutting out and any time you open a program you can go make a sandwich before it opens. If you have to reboot well you have time to cook thanksgiving dinner before it ready to do anything. I also want you to know that this is not because of any of the program on the laptop because I hated this machine the day I pulled it out of the box.
