Lenovo had made a deal with Novell Inc. to preload SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10 operating system (SLED 10) on its ThinkPad T60p mobile workstation. It’s the first time a major OEM (original equipment manufacturer) has committed to preloading a Linux desktop OS, Desktop Linux site reports.
The T60p, featuring 2GHz Intel Core Duo processor with up to 2GB of RAM and an ATI FireGL V5200 256MB graphics card, is expected to come with Lenovo’s “ThinkPad Experience” under Linux, which includes: Access Connections, Configuration Utility, Power Manager, warm and cold docking support for USB and video, and Help Center support.
The SLED 10 operating system incorporates free open source desktop applications, including the OpenOffice.org ( with word processor, spreadsheet, presentation, database and drawing tools), the Firefox Web browser, Evolution groupware client, Gaim instant messenger, GIMP photo manipulation application and also a lot of multimedia applications.
