Lenovo is going to release the ThinkPad W700ds, a dual screen version of the company’s latest mobile workstation.
Along with the primary 17-inch display, the W700ds includes a vertically mounted 10.6″ screen with a resolution of 768-by-1,280 pixels. The smaller display is aimed to help professional users such as photographers, designers, and engineers. It can be tilted up to 30 degrees, “to recreate a dual-display setup typically found with a standard desktop workstation”.
The secondary screen adds about 2 pounds of weight to the W700 and about $500 to the base cost of the laptop that currently starts at around $2,500.
The Lenovo ThinkPad W700 has Intel’s dual or quad core processor, the Nvidia Quadro FX 3700M video card, up to 8GB of DDR3 memory, and up to two hard drives, as well as a built-in Wacom digitizer with pen and a X-Rite PANTONE calibrator in select models.
The W700ds is expected to be on display at CES 2009 in Las Vegas, January next year.
