LenovoLenovo is going to enter the ultra-mobile PC (UMPC) market, the company’s vice president of global consumer marketing Craig Merrigan announced this week.

The first Lenovo UMPC is based on Intel’s “Menlow” platform and will be on display at the 2008 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, which begins on Monday.

Detailed specifications of the ultra-mobile computer are currently unknown.

The next-generation Intel “Menlow” platform for UMPC and MID devices includes a new processor codenamed “Silverthorne”, produced using 45-nanometer technology, and the “Poulsbo” chipset, providing a single-chip solution. The “Menlow” is scheduled for release in the first half of 2008.
