Apple unveiled last week several documents about flaws in its MacBook Air ultraportable laptops. According to the published support documents, there are issues regarding MacBook Air’s wireless connectivity, and Windows installation using Remote Disc. In addition, some third party headphones won’t properly jack into the MacBook Air, Computer World reports.
“If your MacBook Air is closed and an external display is your only display, you may notice a reduction of throughput for wireless networks that use the 2.4-GHz band,” Apple said adding that users should try another channel on the wireless access point, switch frequency ranges or move the laptop closer to the base station.
“Other MacBook Air wireless issues involve slow speeds when connected to multiple Bluetooth devices and balky routers that refuse to work the Remote Disc magic. For the latter, Apple suggested that users update the firmware of their non-Apple 802.11n wireless routers to get disc-sharing operational”, the report says.
Apple confirmed that Windows XP or Vista can not be installed in a Boot Camp partition via the Remote Disc CD/DVD-sharing software. Instead, users are advised to do it using an external USB optical drive.
The computer maker noted that some headphones won’t properly jack into MacBook Air because of the notebook’s nearly hidden audio-out port. To solve this issue, MacBook Air owners should use a third-party headphone adapter to extend the audio connection outside of the port hatch. These adapters are available at the Apple Store.
Apple also added that users should utilize a cabled connection for migrating from an older Mac, instead of the default wireless connection.
