Apple has recently launched the redesigned MacBook laptops, featuring a 13.3-inch LED backlight display, aluminum “unibody” enclosure, NVIDIA’s new GeForce graphics, and a glass multi-touch trackpad.
The laptop is 0.95 inches thin and weighs 4.5 pounds, according to its specifications. Currently, there are two new MacBook models - the first (MB466LL/A) has an Intel Core 2 Duo processor at 2GHz and a 160GB hard drive, while the second (MB467LL/A) comes with a 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo, 250GB HDD, and backlit keyboard. The both models ship with 2GB of DDR3 RAM (expandable to 4GB) and a slot-load optical drive. The systems can be also ordered with a 320GB HDD or a 128GB solid state drive, instead of standard storage.
The 13.3″ display has a resolution of 1280 by 800 pixels. It uses LED backlight and is covered with an edge-to-edge seamless glass. The screen is managed by the latest GeForce 9400M integrated graphics that provides “up to a 5x performance boost” over the GPU in the previous MacBook generation.
Other features include an iSight camera, AirPort Extreme Wi-Fi 802.11n wireless networking, Bluetooth, a Gigabit Ethernet LAN port, Mini DisplayPort, and two USB ports. The new MacBook does not have an ExpressCard or PC Card slot.
MacBook’s innovative trackpad now offers “almost 40 percent” more tracking area and supports more Multi-Touch gestures. The trackpad area also acts as a trackpad button. In addition, users can enable multiple virtual buttons in software, such as right-clicking.
Here is how Apple describes the aluminum unibody enclosure of the latest MacBooks:
“Instead of assembling a notebook from many minor parts, the new MacBook was reinvented from just one: the new, solid-aluminum unibody enclosure. It gets full credit for making MacBook thinner, lighter, and even more stunning. But it’s not all beauty. Because of the unibody, this MacBook is also durable.”
The notebook runs Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard.
The MacBook 2.0GHz MB466LL/A and MacBook 2.4GHz MB467LL/A are priced at $1,299.00 and $1,599.00 at the Apple website.
[…] The 13.3-inch notebook, with the old white chassis made of polycarbonate, now features a 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor with a 1066MHz frontside bus and the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M IGP. The laptop previously featured a Core 2 Duo at 2.1GHz, 800MHz FSB, and Intel’s GMA X3100 integrated GPU, but now has the same platform as the newly designed Macbook with aluminum unibody case. […]
