After the long awaited Apple’s MacBook Pro refresh with Intel Core 2 Duo processor, the reviews said the 15-inch versiron of this notebook is one of the best mobile PCs on the market. But, the 15-inch MacBook Pro should get a little cheaper, according to the reviews.
Apple Macbook Pro 15-inch (Core 2 Duo) review by PC Magazine: Full Review
Now that the Intel Core 2 Duo has arrived in the MacBook Pro 15-inch, I don’t anticipate another processor upgrade for a long while—which is a relief, because now you can go out and buy the new laptop without worrying that you’ll get shafted by another processor update. With the improvement of Boot Camp Beta and third-party software such as Parallels Desktop, you have the option to run Windows more efficiently than ever before. And the MacBook Pro’s heat issues aren’t any worse than those of Windows-based laptops, so why not go with the sexiest design out there? The Apple MacBook Pro 15-inch (Core 2 Duo) offers the performance and features of the best laptops on the market.
Apple MacBook Core 2 Duo Review
Although the Core 2 Duo Macbook is just a notch above its predecessor in terms of performance, it feels like it’s a generation ahead of my one-year-old Asus PC laptop. While I usually describe my Asus as being a Minotaur: well built, powerful and able enough to handle the most demanding things I throw at it in terms of brute strength, but can destroy you easily if you displease it; this Macbook would have to be described as a Pegasi: graceful, cooperative, but will only accept owners who can handle it with not just skill, but respect as well.
Macworld: Review: 15-inch MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo/2.16GHz and 2.33GHz
Apple’s latest update has made great laptops even better. Even if you make heavy use of Adobe’s Creative Suite or other applications that still aren’t yet available as Universal binaries (i.e., that can take full advantage of Intel processors), you will still benefit from buying the Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro. The only real concern is economic: it’s been a while since Apple reduced its prices on pro laptops, and though they keep getting better, I wish they’d get a little cheaper, too. If that’s not a concern for you, though, you won’t find much else to criticize in the MacBook Pro.
Apple MacBook Pro (15.4-inch 2.33GHz Intel Core 2 Duo) Reviews. Laptops Reviews by CNET.
The good: Sleek design; illuminated keyboard; built-in Webcam and remote control; can run Windows XP via Boot Camp; adds FireWire 800 support. The bad: Lacks media card reader; only 90 days of toll-free technical support.
The bottom line: If you’ve been holding off on making the leap to a MacBook because of the lack of Core 2 Duo processors, this new update adds the latest Intel CPUs and provides a great overall computing experience, albeit at a premium price.
