MacBook Pro 15-Inch with Core 2 Duo (Merom)Apple today announced, along with 17-inch model, the 15-inch widescreen MacBook Pro laptop featuring the new Intel Core 2 Duo (codenamed Merom) processor. The 15-inch MacBook Pro features Core 2 Duo T7400 at 2.16GHz or T7600 at 2.33GHz. Both CPUs have 4MB of L2 cache.

The 15-inch MacBook Pro also features 1GB of DDR2 memory on T7400 configuration; and 2GB on T7600 configuration. The new Macbook Pro’s two SO-DIMM slots support up to 3GB of main memory. The laptop has 120GB 5400-rpm SATA hard drive, but there are also optional 160GB 5400-rpm or 200GB 4200-rpm drives. It has a built-in double layer DVD burner.

The 15-inch Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro comes with ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 graphics card with 128MB of GDDR3 SDRAM on T7400 configuration and 256MB of GDDR3 SDRAM on T7600 configuration. The graphics card has a dual-link DVI support. The 15-inch MacBook Pro provides VGA output using included DVI to VGA adapter. It also has built-in iSight camera.

Regarding Internet and connectivity, the Merom-powered MacBook Pros come with a built-in 54-Mbps AirPort Extreme wireless networking (802.11g standard), a Bluetooth and a Gigabit Ethernet.

The 15-inch MacBook Pro has two USB ports, one FireWire 400 port at up to 400 Mbps, one FireWire 800 port at up to 800 Mbps and an ExpressCard/34 slot.

It weights 5.6 pounds, has battery life of up to 5 hours with standard battery and comes with Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger preinstalled.

The 15-inch MacBook Pro T7400 configuration costs $2000, while the faster T7600 model costs $2500.
