Apple today introduced, along with 15-inch model, the 17-inch widescreen MacBook Pro laptop computer featuring the new Intel Core 2 Duo (Merom) processor. The 17-inch MacBook Pro comes with Core 2 Duo T7600 CPU at 2.33GHz with 4MB of L2 cache and 2GB of main memory. The two SO-DIMM slots support up to 3GB memory.
The 17-inch MacBook Pro features 160GB SATA hard drive spinning at 5400rpm, but there are also optional 100GB at 7200rpm and 200GB at 4200rpm drives. It has a built-in double layer DVD burner.
The 17-inch Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro comes with ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 graphics card with 256MB of GDDR3 SDRAM and a dual-link DVI support. The new MacBook Pro provides VGA output using included DVI to VGA adapter. It also has built-in iSight camera.
Regarding Internet and connectivity, the both Merom-powered MacBook Pros come with a built-in 54-Mbps AirPort Extreme wireless (802.11g standard), a Bluetooth and a Gigabit Ethernet LAN.
The Core 2 Duo 17-inch MacBook Pro has three USB ports, one FireWire 400 port at up to 400 Mbps, one FireWire 800 port at up to 800 Mbps and an ExpressCard/34 slot.
The announced laptop weights 6.8 pounds, has battery life of up to 5.5 hours with standard battery and comes with Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger operating system.
The new 17-inch MacBook Pro costs $2800.
