UPDATE: The 4G Surface 2 is now available.
Microsoft’s Surface 2 tablet will be soon available with built-in 4G LTE connectivity alongside Wi-Fi wireless, according to the latest leaked info. A couple of images published by Windows Phone Central reveal package of the Nvidia Tegra processor- and Windows RT-based Surface 2 model with AT&T’s 4G mobile broadband.
“In terms of radio hardware, the Surface 2 will have support for 850/900/1800/1900 2G bands, 3G UMTS (bands 1,2, 5) and LTE (bands 4, 7, 17), in addition to Wi-Fi a/b/g/n,” WPC reports.
The leaked model is a 64GB configuration and costs $679, while the available non-LTE counterpart costs $549. For comparison, the 64GB LTE and Wi-Fi-only Apple iPad Air tablets cost $829 and $699, respectively. On the other hand, the Android-powered Asus MemoPad FHD with 4G LTE is priced at $399 off-contract at AT&T, but it comes only in a 16GB variant.
There’s no info on availability of an LTE version of the Intel CPU- and full Windows 8-based Surface 2 Pro.
Exact availability date of the Surface 2 LTE is unknown at the time of this writing.
