MSI has officially announced an ultrapotable laptop called the Wind PC, which will compete with the Asus Eee PC in the low-cost notebook market.
“The Wind will come with either an 8.9- or 10-inch display option featuring LED backlight technology and a resolution of 1024×600. The system weights around 1kg, according to MSI, and includes a 2.5-inch hard drive with storage capacity of 80GB. The notebooks will include Windows XP and, unlike some other vendors, MSI has not mentioned any plans to offer a Linux-based version so far,” DigiTimes reports.
It was reported earlier that the MSI Wind PC features the Intel Atom processor clocked at 1GHz or 1.6GHz, depending on model.
Pricing is expected to range between $470 and $1,099, while the availability date is currently unknown.

Hmm. One source says 299 - 699 euros, and another says 299 - 699 English pounds. I wonder which is right?
[…] Intel’s Netbook can be expected to compete with upcoming budget computers, such as the Asus Eee PC 900 or MSI Wind PC. […]
i have a question about this atom, is this the “celeron atom”?
Keep the laptops under 3lbs under $400 with a size between 8in and 9in and give it some HD at least 20gb and these will be the biggest sellers since sliced bread. Keep in mind the size of a woman’s handbag ,child’s pack pack and a man’s brief case. Then make it more usable not all the frills but the basics like word programs, internet access and perhaps a game or two.
I can see this happening but also see the greed getting in the way with the high prices which will drive off over half the new buyers.
