The first netbooks with Windows 7 operating system are now available for pre-order in the US and will start shipping on October 22.
Around 70 Windows 7 Starter Edition-based netbooks by Acer, Asus, HP, Dell, Lenovo, Toshiba, Sony, Samsung and Gateway can be purchased from Amazon, Newegg, TigerDirect and other retailers. Regarding hardware, most of the listed netbooks are actually old models with 10.1-inch displays, Intel Atom processors, 1GB of RAM, and up to 250GB of hard drive storage.
The cheapest model available is the Gateway LT2022u for $300. However, other manufacturers have similar starting prices for their Windows 7 10.1-inchers.
