Besides with the new IdeaPad G, Y, and Z series, Lenovo has expanded its notebook consumer line with the 13.3″ U310 and 14″ U410, both scheduled for release in May. According to the new model names and specs, the U310 and U410 appear to be updates rather to the classic thin-and-light U300 and U400 series laptops than to the company’s first ultrabook – the U300s.

The U310 and U410 are not noticeably thinner than their precursors, measuring 0.70 and 0.83 inches respectively versus 0.72″ and 0.88″. On the other side, the U300s is 0.59″ thin. The U310 weighs 3.74lbs, so it’s actually heavier than 3.48-pound U300, but the U410 measures 4.18lbs versus 4.36lbs on the old model.

A disappointing fact regarding Lenovo’s announcement is that the new laptops will ship with the current generation of Intel Core processors (their GMA 3000 HD graphics is listed in the specs of the U310), not with the next-gen chips codenamed Ivy Bridge (with GMA 4000 IGPs). Hovewer, it’s good to see 64GB solid state drive options in both and a dedicated video card choice in the U410, which will optionally ship with the Nvidia GeForce 610M. In addition, Lenovo will provide Intel Wireless Display technology choice for both models.

Specs wise, a more intriguing announcement could be a U310s ultrabook, but at this stage that’s just our model name guess.

The U will come in Aqua Blue, Cherry Blossom, Graphite Gray, Ruby Red, Sapphire Blue and Spearmint colors and will start at $700.
