A new family of faster Intel Core 2 Duo Mobile (Merom) laptop chips is being prepared for the introduction of Intel’s Santa Rosa platform in the second quarter of next year, the Inquirer reports.

According to roadmaps shown to Intel OEMs (original equipment manufacturers), the T7700 processor will be introduced to coincide with the introduction of Santa Rosa.

Santa Rosa is Intel’s codename for a so-called platform - the combination of microprocessor, chipset, wireless LAN Kedron, Windigo WWAN, and media sharing software.

Intel already ships current Merom processors, such as T7200, T7400 and T7600, to laptop manufacturers, so new Intel Core 2 Duo laptops will hit the market soon.
