Laptop makers may fail to meet their annual shipments targets for 2007, due to shortages of computer components, according to the DigiTimes’ sources at Taiwan notebook manufacturers.

There is a lack of LCD panels, battery cells, optical drives, circuit boards and other important parts, according to the manufacturers and component suppliers.

The report says that Dell’s consumer notebooks are in short supply, as well as the Nvidia and AMD graphics chips for Acer laptops. In addition, a shortage of 12.1-inch displays may cause the shipment delays for Acer’s and Hewlett-Packard’s ultraportable laptops.

The short components supplies combined with an increased market demand for laptop systems may cause higher notebook prices reportedly.
