Nvidia prepares the release of the GeForce 8800M GTX video card for notebooks, the leaked Alienware’s laptop specifications revealed.
According to the information published on Alienware.com, the PC maker will unveil the 15.4-inch Area-51 m15x featuring the optional single Nvidia 8800M GTX and the 17-inch Area-51 m17x with an option of two of these video cards operating in SLI mode.
Along with 512MB of dedicated video memory, the Nvidia GeForce (”Go”) 8800M GTX utilizes a 256-bit memory interface and 96 stream processors. The core clock, shader clock, and memory clock are 500MHz, 1250MHz, and 800MHz respectively.
For comparison, the desktop computer version - the GeForce 8800 GTX GPU - has a 384-bit memory interface and 128 stream processors, while the core, shaders, and memory are clocked at 575MHz, 1350MHz, and 900MHz respectively. However, the 8800M GTX is expected to be the most powerful laptop-use video card offering from Nvidia.
The 8800M GTX is DirectX 10-compatible and incorporates a dedicated processor for HD DVD and Blu-Ray video decoding.
The Alienware Area-51 m15x and Area-51 m17x are both based on the Intel Core 2 Duo processing technology. These notebooks will start at $1,399 and $2,199 respectively.
