Nvidia has launched the long awaited GeForce GTX 580M top-of-the-line gaming video card for laptops.
Specifications wise, the DirectX 11 capable GPU has 384 CUDA cores and a 1240MHz processor clock, providing texture fill rate of 39.7 billion/sec. The memory inteface is 256-bit and GDDR5 VRAM on the card is clocked at 1500MHz, together delivering memory bandwidth of 96GB/s.
The “fastest notebook GPU ever” enables gamers to play the latest games at 1080p resolution in 3D and for even greater peformance Nvidia advises looking for laptops with dual GTX 580M in SLI.
A chart published on Nvidia.com shows that the card scores more than 16,000 points in 3DMark Vantage benchmark, Performance mode. The manufacturer also has charts showing how much the GTX 580M beats out other Nvidia laptop GPUs.
Besides Nvidia 3D Vision, SLI, PhysX, and CUDA, the graphics card supports Optimus switchable graphics technology.
The GPU can be found in the Alienware M18x gaming laptop and will be soon included as an option in the M17x, according to Nvidia.
Along with the 580M, Nvidia has launched the 192-bit GeForce GTX 570M with 336 CUDA cores.
