Samsung’s new business-class laptops - the 14.1-inch P460 and 15.4-inch P560 - are now available in the United States.
The models offered at NewEgg are the Samsung P460-44G and Samsung P560-54G, both featuring the Intel Core 2 Duo T5800 processor at 2GHz, 3GB of DDR3 memory, a 320GB hard drive, and a DVD burner. The P460-44G includes the Intel GMA 4500MHD integrated graphics, while the P560-54G comes with the NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GS 256MB video card. The displays in the notebooks have a resolution of 1280×800 pixels.
The Samsung R610 desktop replacement (DTR) laptop with a 16-inch display is now available in the US.
Along with the screen that has an aspect ratio of 16:9 and 1366×768 resolution, the R610-64G model offered by NewEgg features the Intel Core 2 Duo T5800 processor at 2GHz, NVIDIA GeForce 9200M GS 512MB graphics, 3GB of DDR3 memory, a 250GB hard drive, and a DVD burner.
Asustek has launched the Asus B80A business-class laptop, featuring a 14.1-inch display and Intel’s Centrino 2 mobile platform.
The B80A comes with the Intel Core 2 Duo Processor (T9400, T5850, P8600, or P7350), 4500MHD integrated graphics, up to 4GB of DDR2 system memory, up to 320GB hard drive, and a DVD burner. The display has a resolution of 1280×800 or 1440×900 pixels, depending on model.
Hewlett-Packard is going to unveil the Compaq Mini 700 netbook, similar to the recently announced HP Mini 1000, according to UK-based websites Pocket Lint and T3.
The Compaq Mini 700 has only a few differences when compared to the Mini 1000: the 700 comes an optional HSDPA modem and has a Compaq logo instead of an HP logo.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced on Thursday a voluntary recall of select Sony-made lithium-ion batteries used in Hewlett-Packard, Toshiba and Dell laptops.

eMachines has launched the eMD620-5777 14.1-inch laptop, priced at only $429.99.
The notebook features the AMD Athlon 2650e processor (1.6GHz, 512KB L2 cache, 800MHz FSB), 1GB of DDR2 memory, the ATI Radeon X1200 integrated graphics, a 160GB hard drive, DVD burner, 802.11b/g WiFi connection, and two USB ports. Its display has a resolution of 1280×800 pixels.
“The third quarter of 2008 (3Q08) saw laptop shipments into the U.S. market surpass 50% share, topping quarterly desktop PC shipments for the first time in the history of the industry,” preliminary data from IDC’s U.S. Quarterly PC Tracker says.
According to the market researcher, the share of notebooks shipped in the U.S. in 3Q08 stood at a solid 55.2%. IDC reports that PC vendors shipped over 9.5 million laptops in the quarter, which is more than 18% growth both year over year and on a sequential basis.
Apple’s has released the refreshed Macbook Air 13.3-inch thin-and-light laptop, which now features the new NVIDIA’s graphics, faster architecture, and a larger hard drive.
The company offers two new Macbook Air configurations. The first, the MB543LL/A, has a 1.6GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and a 120GB hard drive, which is larger than 80GB in previous models. It is priced at $1,799. The second, the MB940LL/A, offers a 1.86GHz Core 2 Duo and a 128GB solid state drive for $2,499.
Hewlett-Packard unveiled today the new netbook series called HP Mini 1000.
The low-cost ultraportable, based on the Intel Atom N270 1.6GHz processor, is initially offered in three variants – the standard HP Mini 1000, Mini 1000 Vivienne Tam Edition, and Mini 1000 with MIE (Mobile Internet Experience) Linux OS.
MSI has released a BIOS update that enables overclocking of the Wind netbook.
“The freshly released (and absolutely official) v1.09 BIOS update enables simple overclocking by mashing Fn+F10, giving users the ability to push things 8%, 15% or 24% beyond their normally specified limits,” Engadget reports.
Dell introduced today the Inspiron Mini 12, the company’s new netbook that features a 12-inch display.
“With a starting weight of only 2.72 lbs. and only 0.92 in. thick, current standard features on the Inspiron Mini 12 include: Windows Vista Home Basic, built-in webcam, 1GB of RAM and a choice of 60 GB or 80GB hard drive,” Dell says adding that the widescreen display has a resolution of 1280×800 pixels.
Intel plans to launch several new processors for the Centrino 2 “Montevina” notebook platform before the end of this year, as well as the “Montevina Refresh” platform in April 2009, DigiTimes’ sources at laptop makers say.
The new CPUs for the current Montevina include the Core 2 Quad Q9600 and Core 2 Duo T9800, T9550, P9600, P8700, SP9600, SL9600 and SU9600, as well as the dual-core Celeron T1700 and T1600.
