Palm Foleo Mobile CompanionPalm, Inc. today unveiled laptop-like device called Foleo, which is the Company’s first product in new “mobile companions” class.

Designed primarily as a companion to a mobile phone, the 2.5-pound Palm Foleo features 10-inch screen with 1024×600 resolution, as well as full-size QWERTY keyboard. The Foleo has a USB port, video-out port, headphone jack, and slots for SD and compact flash cards for memory expansion, but there is no information on its processor, system memory and data storage capacity.

Palm Foleo Mobile CompanionThe Foleo uses Linux operating system and provides applications such as email, web browser, and editors or viewers for Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF and other files.

According to Palm, “Foleo and its paired smartphone stay synchronized throughout the day or at the touch of a button”. The device stays synchronized via Bluetooth and uses the smartphone’s radio or the Foleo’s built-in Wi-Fi radio for general Internet connectivity.

It is claimed that Foleo’s battery life lasts up to 5 hours.

The Palm’s first mobile companion will be priced at $499 after an introductory $100 rebate. Its U.S. availability will begin this summer.
