Panasonic unveiled three new laptops from business-rugged ToughBook series. The CF-Y5, CF-W5 and CF-T5 ToughBooks feature magnesium alloy chassis, while one of them, CF-Y5, has spill-through keyboard. The new business-rugged notebooks meet Military Specification drop test, which is about a 1-foot drop onto plywood. All three announced laptops have Verizon’s and Sprint’s EV-DO service, and eventually options for Cingular’s HSDPA.
The Panasonic Toughbook CF-Y5 is a 3.75 pounds ultra-lightweight laptop with 14-inch screen and equipped with 1.66GHz Intel Core Duo ultra-low voltage (ULV) processor L2400. The CF-Y5 features upwards-ejecting optical drive and its price starts at $2199.
The 12-inch screen Panasonic Toughbook CF-W5 laptop weights 3.5 pounds and features Intel Core Solo ULV processor, which “will push battery life to 8 hours”. It also has upwards-ejecting optical drive. The Toughbook CF-W5 price starts at $1899.
The Panasonic Toughbook CF-T5 is a 12-inch touch-screen notebook. According to the report, it will come with third-party rotational software that’s not Windows XP Tablet Edition. The CF-T5 will also use an ULV processor, and will have battery life of up to 10 hours, but it won’t be equipped with a built-in optical drive. The new touch-screen CF-T5 Toughbook price starts at $1899.
