Samsung Q1 Ultra UMPCSamsung has announced the Q1 Ultra ultra-mobile PC, the successor to its Q1 UPMC, at CeBIT show. The Q1 Ultra features 7-inch screen with higher 1024×600 screen resolution, a physical keyboard in form of a split thumb pad, the improved battery life of 3.5 hours and Windows Vista operating system.

According to the reports, Samsung Q1 Ultra uses a new Intel’s low-voltage platform codenamed McCaslin and single core Steeley processor with relatively slow clock speed of 800MHz.

“But the performance appears as crisp as you’d expect on a faster chip. The platform whizzes through Windows Vista’s 3D application scroller, which crawls on many faster-clocking notebooks,” Computeractive says.

The 1.5 lbs UMPC, Q1 Ultra, will offer 1 GB of system memory and 60 GB of storage space, as well as variety of connectivity features such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Ethernet LAN and support for HSDPA and WiBRO wireless technologies. There are also a 0.3 MP webcam on the front side that can be used for video conferencing, a 1.3 MP digital camera at the back and a fingerprint sensor.

The Q1 Ultra is expected to be launched in May. The industry sources say it will be priced between $899 and $1299.

Previously, it was reported that Samsung Q1 Ultra is built on Intel “Santa Rosa” platform.
