SanDisk has unveiled this week ExtremeFFS, a new file system for solid-state drives that is expected to bring big improvements in their performance and reliability.

The next-generation patented flash management system has the potential to accelerate random write speeds by up to 100 times over existing systems, SanDisk says.

ExtremeFFS will ship in SanDisk’s products during 2009, according to the company.
