Sierra WirelessSierra Wireless has introduced the Apex 880 USB modem, supporting HSUPA network technology. The Apex 880 is smaller than previous models in the company’s USB modem product line and sports a new, innovative design and features.

This HSUPA modem offers theoretical maximum data speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps (megabits per second) on the downlink, and up to 2.0 Mbps on the uplink. It supports tri-band HSPA/UMTS connectivity (850/1900/2100 MHz) and quad-band EDGE/GPRS connectivity (850/900/1800/1900 MHz) for use worldwide.

“The Apex 880 is designed to provide a high-performance, reliable wireless connection with the most flexible usage options available. The rotating connector hinge accommodates both horizontally and vertically oriented USB ports. In addition, a laptop clip and USB extension cable is included for those who would prefer to attach the modem to the top of the screen for improved reception or easier use,” the press release says.

The Apex 880 USB modem is expected to start shipping in January 2008.
