Sony Recalls VAIO F, VAIO C Series Laptops

Sony VAIO FThe U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with Sony, today announced a voluntary recall of 233,000 Sony VAIO laptops due to burn hazard.

The recalled notebooks include some models that belong to the VAIO F VPCF11 and VAIO C VPCCW2 Series.

Sony has received 30 reports of units overheating resulting in deformed keyboards and casings. No injuries have been reported.

The recalled laptops were shipped to consumers and resellers between January 2010 and April 2010.

CPSC advises owners of the recalled units to immediately go to http://esupport.sony.com/US/f1cw2update for instructions on how to update the computer’s BIOS firmware, which will prevent the notebooks from overheating.

Total number of recalled systems in the US and worldwide is 535,000.
