Sony today announced 15.4-inch 1280 x 800 widescreen VAIO FZ multimedia notebook PC series, based on new Intel “Santa Rosa” platform.
Sony VAIO FZ series features the full range of new Intel Core 2 Duo processors, up to 4GB of main memory, and up to 250GB of hard drive capacity. There are an integrated Mobile Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 or NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GT video options. The select VAIO FZ models feature Blu-ray Disc writers and HDMI outputs.
These notebooks incorporate 802.11a/b/g/n wireless, Ethernet LAN, a standard modem and an integrated Bluetooth, as well as ExpressCard slot, three USB ports, Firewire, Memory Stick Media Slot, Secure Digital Slot, VGA out and S-Video out.
According to the FZ’s specifications, it has an estimated battery life of 2 to 5 hours with standard capacity battery and 3.5 to 8 hours using large capacity battery.
Sony VAIO FZ laptops weigh starting at 5.75lbs and come with Windows Vista Home Premium or Vista Business operating systems.
The Company says the FZ standard model will start at about $1,400, while the FZ premium Blu-ray Disc model will go for around $2,000. The VAIO FZ series will be available online at www.sony.com/pr/fz. They will also be sold at Sony Style stores and select retailers around the country starting in mid-May.
This is a nice laptop. The sony vaio serie is looking more and more as a Appe Macbook.

I would absolutely love it if there were some Linux distribution that could actually use all of the hardware. Why did Sony need to make it so difficult to do things thought should work out of the box with a Linux distribution.
Examples:
Screen Brightness
Dual Monitors
Function Keys
Built-In Camera
Built-In Microphone
Hibernate/Suspend
Etc.
90% of these issues are non existent in most other laptop models. If I could get these basic things working, I would need to say it’s one of the best laptops I’ve ever touched.
