Sony VAIO VGN-TZ298N/XCSony Electronics is going to refresh its VAIO TZ 11.1-inch ultraportable notebook series with the VAIO VGN-TZ298N/XC model, which brings several upgrades over the previous TZ laptops, according to leaked information.

The first of the upgrades is a greater data storage capacity. The Sony VAIO VGN-TZ298N/XC has a 64GB solid state drive paired with a 250GB hard drive, while the currently available VAIO TZ laptops ship with up to 48GB of SSD storage or with a 100GB HDD.

The other listed upgrades include an external DVD burner drive, and the new Bordeaux Red premium carbon fiber casing. However, the available VGN-TZ180N/RC already has a Bordeaux Red notebook lid.

Along with the “RazorThin” 11.1″ 1366-by-768 pixel LED backlight display, the VGN-TZ298N/XC and the other VAIO TZ notebooks feature Intel Core 2 Duo Ultra Low Voltage processors, the Intel GM945 “Napa” chipset with the integrated Graphics Media Accelerator 950, and up to 2GB of system memory. These sub-notebooks also have 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi, Gigabit Ethernet, Sprint Mobile Broadband, and 56K modem connections, a built-in web camera, a fingerprint reader, two USB ports, a VGA output, an ExpressCard slot, and a FireWire port.

The 1-inch thin Sony VAIO TZ laptops start at 2.6 pounds and have a long battery life. In particular, the VGN-TZ298N/XC, which incorporates the Core 2 Duo U7600 ULV CPU at 1.2GHz, provides up to 8.5 hours run time with a standard capacity battery and up to 12.5 hours with a large capacity battery, according to the leaked specifications.

Currently, there is no information on the VAIO VGN-TZ298N/XC pricing. The other TZ ultraportables cost between $2,100 and $3,100.
