Acer Aspire E 15 E5-575G-57D4 15.6″ Laptop (Full HD, Intel i5-7200U, Nvidia 940MX, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD)
With its price of around $550, the 15.6-inch Acer Aspire E 15 E5-575G-57D4 is one of the most affordable notebooks with a dedicated video card. Granted, the included Nvidia GeForce 940MX isn’t among highest performing laptop graphics processors. But, it’s far better than the usual integrated graphics solutions. Besides the 940MX, the Windows 10-based Acer E5-575G-57D4 features a quite admirable internal components. Namely, the Intel Core i5-7200U processor, 8GB of RAM, and a 256GB solid state drive.
Components are encased in an ‘Obsidian Black” plastic chassis. When you open up the laptop, you’ll be presented with a Full HD 1920×1080 display, a backlit keyboard, and a muti-touch trackpad. Unfortunately, the notebook lacks IPS display technology for wide viewing angles. This omission is however quite common on ~$500 laptops. On the positive side, the laptop’s sharp Full HD screen resolution is a significant upgrade over HD 1366×768 panels found on similar systems.
Back to the internals. The included i5-7200U CPU (review) from the 7th Generation Intel Core series, combined with the Nvidia 940MX, 8GB of RAM, and fast SSD storage, offers very smooth user experience. For instance, fast switching between multiple programs or web browser tabs, quick Windows boot-ups and file manipulation, and similar. As for gaming, the 940MX with 2GB of discrete graphics memory is able to easily render many of the mainstream gaming titles. But, for some of the latest highly demanding games require a higher-end GPU like the Nvidia GeForce 10-series. The 940MX performs very similar to the 940M we overviewed here.
The rest of the specs is a traditional fare for affordable 15.6″ Windows notebooks. The Acer Aspire E 15 E5-575G-57D4 features a built-in DVD burner, stereo speakers, a 720p web camera, 802.11AC Wi-Fi connection, Ethernet LAN network port, Bluetooth, HDMI and VGA video outputs, an SD media card reader, and a combo headphones / microphone connector. For USB connectivity, provided are one USB 2.0 and two USB 3.0 ports, as well as one compact USB-C type port.
The notebook weighs in at 5.3-pounds and is 1.2″ thick.
According to Acer, the E5-575G-57D4 can last “up to 12 hours” on a single battery charge. But in real life use, the battery life will be very likely much shorter, especially if you increase display brightness and run some power-hungry programs like 3D games.
