Acer Aspire V17 Nitro Black Edition VN7-791G-7484 / 73AW Thin 17.3″ Gaming Notebook
The Acer Aspire V17 Nitro Black Edition VN7-791G-7484 and VN7-791G-73AW are gaming-class 17.3-inch laptops. They’re bigger brothers of the V15-series Nitro Black Edition models with 15.6-inch displays. Unlike the higher-end counterparts by other manufacturers, such as the Asus G751 with optional top-tier Nvidia GeForce GTX 970M and 980M series video cards, the V17 Nitro notebooks are equipped with the mid range GeForce GTX 860M. They are rather similar to the Lenovo Y70 series, because of the components, physical specs, and starting prices of under $1,500.
That said, the Acer Aspire V17 Nitro Black Edition series is characterized by remarkably thin chassis, measuring a mere 1″ in profile. The laptop is reasonably light for a 17.3″ gaming notebook and measures 6.6 pounds. The finish has a soft-touch feel to it, thanks to new NIL (Nanoimprint Lithography) technology.
A standout feature which is lacking on the similar competing systems is IPS screen technology, which allows wide viewing angles. As expected, the display sports 1080p resolution.
The VN7-791G-7484 and VN7-791G-73AW models are almost identical. Alongside the GTX 860M 2GB GDDR5 GPU, they are equipped with the 4th Generation Intel Core i7-4710HQ processor which is one of the fastest on the laptop market, 16GB of RAM memory via two SODIMM slots, and a DVD burner which is missing on the smaller V15. The difference is in the storage department. The VN7-791G-7484 has a 1-Terabyte 5,400rpm hard drive, while the VN7-791G-73AW additionally provides a 256GB M.2 SSD to complement the same 1TB HDD.
Acer’s Nitro notebooks include four speakers and Dolby Digital Plus Home Theater surround sound technology, a 720p web camera, Wi-Fi 802.11n wireless, Gigabit LAN, Bluetooth, HDMI video out, and a media card reader. The 17.3-inchers have four USB ports instead of three on the 15.6″ variant.
The claimed battery life is up to four hours.
