Asus X552LAV-BBI5N08 Cheap 15.6″ Laptop with Intel i5
The Asus X552LAV-BBI5N08 packs a serous punch at an affordable price in a 15.6-inch laptop form factor. Selling or $399.99 after discounts, the laptop is equipped with the very good Intel Core i5-4210U processor with the Intel HD 4400 integrated graphics. Otherwise, its just another inexpensive notebook with usual 1366×768 screen resolution, 4GB of RAM memory, a 500GB hard drive, non-backlight keyboard, and plastic chassis. DVD burner is also included, and all the necessary modern laptop features.
There are stereo speakers, a web camera, two USB 3.0 ports, dual video outputs – HDMI and VGA, a media card reader, and Wi-Fi and Ethernet LAN network connections. The X552LAV-BBI5N08 could have had a better camera since the one included has a small 0.3-megapixel sensor. Also, at least one USB port more would be appreciated.
The notebook weighs in at 5.1 pounds and is 1.3″ thick, so it is an averagely bulky 15.6-inhcer. We have no info on battery life, but the included 3-cell 2600 mAh unit with its relatively low capacity doesn’t seem to provide long operation on a single charge.
Overall, not an impressive laptop. But, the incorporated Intel i5 processor will crunch with ease everyday tasks and is much faster than the Intel Celeron and Pentium chips used in so many similar machines. Plus, it is a great companion in more demanding tasks like multimedia creation. Its PassMark benchmark score of 3,600 points versus between 1,100 and 1,800 with Celerons and Pentiums speaks itself. Furthermore, the Intel HD 4400 IGP will provide a better gaming experience than the low-end Intel chips, although it isn’t a gaming-class component.
