Asus ZenBook UX305CA is the latest thin-and-light notebook series. This 13.3-inch all-aluminum ultraportable with a weight of just 2.6 pounds and 0.5″ height is available in the United States as the UX305CA-EHM1 and UX305CA-DHM4T models. The Asus UX305CA-EHM1 has a FHD 1920×1080 display resolution, while the UX305CA-DHM4T has an even sharper QHD+ 3200×1800 screen and additionally touchscreen support. Other parts are the same. Both have 6th Gen Intel Core M processor, 8GB of RAM, and 256GB SSD as the main internal components.

The included Intel Core M3-6Y30 CPU has very low power consumption and heat dissipation as the best features. This enabled Asus to make the ZenBook UX305CA fanless and therefore completely silent. In terms of computing power, it can match performance of Intel’s lower-mid-range chips, like the Core i3 series oftentimes used in mainstream laptops priced at around $400. That means the M3-6Y30 can juggle your daily computing chores with ease, but isn’t quite suitable if you regularly throw heavy stuff at it like editing high-definition video files and high-quality pictures. It’s admirable, since the M3 consumes only 4.5 Watts while the i3 consumes 15W. On the negative side, the M3-series processors come with the Intel HD 515 integrated graphics instead of HD 520, meaning somewhat lower game rendering performance. 8GB of system memory is large enough for all multitasking needs of a regular PC user.

The laptop has isle-style keyboard keys and a single-piece trackpad with integrated buttons. Unfortunately, keyboard backlight is missing.

For sound reproduction, the Asus ZenBook UX305CA-EHM1 and UX305CA-DHM4T have stereo speakers, while for video conferencing there’s a 720p web camera. For laptop connectivity, the laptop uses 802.11AC Wi-Fi wireless. The notebook also has three USB 3.0 ports, micro HDMI video output, a media card reader, and combo audio mic / headphone jack.

Asus says the UX305CA series provides a battery life of “up to 10 hours”, but the Quad-HD+ version probably last shorter on a charge than the FHD with less pixels.
